About the Instructor
Dieter Bove' served as a full-time career firefighter from 1979-2009 with the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District, in Bloomingdale, Illinois. Now retired he also served as a rescue diver starting in 2006 and was a paramedic from 1979 to 1999.
Along side his firefighting career, in 1980 he founded the Chimney Department, Ltd. a chimney, fireplace and dryer vent service company. As a result of the destruction caused by chimney and dryer vent fires, he soon realized that they started because there was a void of information on this topic for homeowners and firefighters alike. The public often thinks that because firefighters deal with fire, that they are trained in this subject, which is not the case.
Dieter has been training the fire service on solid fuel and gas combustion appliances, and the emergencies and fire related to them since 1985. He has been a guest speaker on the topic of chimney, fireplace and clothes dryer vent safety and maintenance on a variety of news talk radio shows including WIND 560 in Chicago, "Your Home Matters" on WRMN in Elgin, IL and on "Common Interest Radio" WBIG in Aurora, IL, a radio program from property managers and homeowners associations.
